MLGW restores power for thousands

(WMC-TV) - Thousands of customers were still without power as of Friday night, according to the MLGW power outage map.

Only about 200 people were without power Saturday morning.

If you have an emergency to report to MLGW, such as a downed power line, call 901-528-4465.

MLGW is urging you to get an emergency kit together even if its for just a couple of days. It should include non-perishable items and things that will spoil right away like bread and peanut butter and canned goods.

Invest in a flashlight kit in case the lights go out as candles are not safe.

"If you are out and about be aware of where you are in relation to tree limbs and power lines. That's always a very dangerous situation," said Shelby County Emergency Management Director Bob Nations.

Emergency workers recommend if the power goes out keep plenty of blankets around. Do not use a generator indoors including the garage. Click here for numbers to call if in an emergency.
