(WMC-TV) - Shelby County remains in a state of emergency Saturday evening. Mayor Mark Luttrell, Jr. issued a state of emergency Friday for Shelby County as a result of icy conditions on the roads.

In addition to Shelby County, a state of emergency was issued for Tennessee and Arkansas ahead of the storm Thursday.

Emergency management officials say they are keeping a close eye on conditions and fear the worst is yet to come.

They say when storms like this come in waves, the second round can be much worse because of what is already on the ground.

They also suggest that the ground was much warmer when yesterday's storm hit, and the next round could make it easier for roads to ice over.

"We may or may not have 'stickability ' – if you will. So the message is this since you'll want to get out and do some things: It ain't over yet," said Shelby County Emergency Management Director Bob Nations.

Officials say if you do not have somewhere important to bet then do not get out and drive.

Emergency workers recommend if the power goes out keep plenty of blankets around. Do not use a generator indoors including the garage. Click here for numbers to call if in an emergency.
