Gun, ammunition found at high school

(WMC-TV) - School resource officers found gun and ammunition on a Shelby County Schools District campus Wednesday.

A 17-year-old student was sitting in a Millington High School classroom when some bullets fell out of his pocket. When questioned he said he was holding them for another student.

The other student, also 17, located in another classroom and searched. Officials found an unloaded .380 caliber handgun in his pocket, which was confiscated.

The investigation revealed that the individuals traded each other for the items.

Detectives from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office were called to the school and both juvenile students were arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school property. They were transported to Juvenile Court.

Nearly a dozen incidents reported on SCS campuses occurred this fall that could have jeopardized students' safety. The incidents range from guns and knives found in backpacks to sexual assault reports. Use this interactive map to locate and read about the reports.
