Bill aims to ensure health care coverage despite glitches

WASHINGTON (CBS5) -

A bill introduced by U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, (D-AZ) aims to ensure people who couldn't sign up for health insurance through the federal marketplace because website glitches would still be able to enroll.

Kirkpatrick's bill would provide retroactive insurance coverage to Jan. 1, 2014, for people who tried to enroll in an exchange health plan before Dec. 23, 2013, as long as they enroll and pay their premium by Jan. 31, 2014.

"My bill offers a commonsense fix to ensure that people in Arizona's District One and across the country aren't penalized for a faulty website."

The bill also promises people who enrolled correctly, but do not yet have their insurance card, are not turned away when they seek health care.

Kirkpatrick represents Graham and Greenlee counties in Congress.
