BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ (CBS5) -

Each night this week on CBS 5 News at 10 we're highlighting an Arizona Christmas tradition or legend.

Wednesday, it's an update on the "Mystery Christmas Tree" in the median of Interstate 17.

We still don't know who is decorating this tree just north of Sunset Point.

But, this nearly 30-year tradition does involve more than one person.

The Department of Public Safety actually has proof of that.

Several years ago, during the holidays, the mystery decorators sent a gift to a DPS office in Cordes Junction that included a picture of themselves hard at work.

"We don't know exactly who does it," said DPS officer Robert Huijkman. "We did get a Christmas basket one year, several years ago, on the step of our office; several cookies and a picture frame with the people while they're decorating it. Almost everybody's with their back turned toward the camera, so we can't identify them.  It's a mystery."

DPS said this is one case they don't care to solve.

Huijkman said they've never gotten any complaints from drivers - only calls telling them how much they enjoy seeing the festive "Mystery Christmas Tree."
