Man shot at apartment complex in north Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A man is in the hospital after being shot outside of a north Nashville apartment complex overnight.

The incident happened around midnight Tuesday at Trinity Village Apartments.

A man, woman and child were walking back to an apartment on East Nocturne Drive when they say an armed man came from around the end of the building and approached them.

He allegedly pointed the gun at the three people and told them to hand over everything.

Police say the suspect then put the gun to the man's head and ordered him to let the woman and her daughter go, which is when the woman and the child ran toward the apartment.

After the woman and her daughter got away, the man tried to run away in the opposite direction, which is when police say the suspect opened fire and shot him in the leg.

The man fell to the ground, which is when police say the suspect went through the man's pockets.

The gunman was able to get away on foot. Police searched the area for a couple of hours but couldn't find him.

The gunman is described as a black male in his 20s with shoulder-length dreads who is 6 feet tall. He was wearing a black hoodie, a red shirt, light-colored jeans and black shoes at the time of the shooting.

The man who was shot is said to have non-life-threatening injuries.
