MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - They are at it again! Dozens of waterskiers and wakeboarders will ring in the new year by braving the icy waters of the Mighty Mississippi. Why? To make dreams come true for kids who are critically or chronically ill.

The 37th annual Ski Freeze event, sponsored by the Collierville Ski Club, will take place at Mud Island River Park Wednesday, January 1. And even if you do not ski or wakeboard, you are more than welcome to show up and watch the antics with your own eyes. There will also be a live auction.

This year, the money raised at the Ski Freeze will help send 12-year-old Garrett W. to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Garrett is diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis, which is a rare multi-system genetic disease that causes non-malignant tumors to grow in his brain and on other vital organs.

Over the years, the Ski Freeze has raised more than $250,000 for the Dream Factory of Memphis.

If you're brave enough to take part in the event (yes, that is a dare), it will be worth the shivers to know you are helping to make a local boy's dream come true.

With that being said, here is what you need to know:
