Two Mid-South families lose everything in apartment fire

(WMC-TV) – While most Mid-Southerners rang in the New Year, two Frayser families are forced to start from the beginning after a fire tore through apartments in the Forest Park Apartment complex.

At the 900 block of Deb Drive in Memphis, a pile of charred clothing, furniture and appliances was pulled from this Frayser apartment complex.

Water can be heard dripping from inside one unit, hours after fire tore through the building.

One of the fire victims Nigeria Fouse said, "We was at church and then my T. T., she heard the news about her house getting burned down and stuff like that."

There is little left of the building and residents said that there is not much they can even salvage. Residents also say they are just thankful everyone made it out and that everyone is okay.

When Action News 5 arrived on the scene, flames could be seen shooting from the roof of the building. Eight units were engulfed in flames, some of those were vacant.

Two families are now forced to start over at the start of a new year.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the two families displaced.
