MPD investigating early morning shooting at lounge

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) – A New Year's Eve party ended in gunshots where one person was hurt and police are searching for the person who pulled the trigger.

Guests at a New Year's Eve party at the K2 Lounge on Union and Marshall were able to toast to the New Year, but that's about it because not long after, shots rang out and the guests scattered.

Bobby Jacobs said, "First time here, I'll never come back to a club, never."

It may still turn out to be a New Year's Eve to remember for those at the K2 Lounge located near downtown Memphis.

Just hours after ringing in the New Year, the party was over when shots were fired. Eyewitnesses at the scene say they couldn't tell where the gunfire came from or how many people had been shot, but they didn't want to stay inside to find out.

When the panic calmed, Memphis police found a 41-year-old male that had been shot. He was taken to the MED by a private vehicle and listed in critical condition and later upgraded to non-critical and released.

A security officer's shirt also had a bullet hole in it, but he had no injuries.

Jacobs went on to say, "A brawl went out. The only thing we heard were shots fired, man down."

Left behind inside the bar was food and alcohol all pre-paid by the guests who, now, like police, are wondering who is to blame for ruining the party that guests say cost $90 to attend.

There is no suspect information and this is an ongoing investigation.
