Germantown School Board works diligently to plan school year

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - New school boards and superintendents in the Memphis suburbs are working diligently to make sure they have thought of everything for the inaugural school year.

A challenge for Lisa Parker, Germantown's school board chair, and the rest of the school board is figuring out how many students and staff are going to which schools.

"We need to do that as quickly as possible," said Parker. "We need to know the numbers, we need to know how many Germantown students will be attending Germantown Municipal Schools."

This comes after Shelby County Schools retained Germantown Elementary, Middle and High schools in the county school district.

Germantown parents who have children attending those schools will have the option to remain there or go to a municipal school.

"We would really like to have all this settled by the third week of February," said Parker. "We really just ask the Germantown parents to be patient. We will get the information out just as quickly as possible."

School board leaders want public input on the upcoming school year.

The first opportunity for you to weigh in is at the school board meeting on January 20 at 6:30 p.m.

The Germantown School Board will be meeting at CarreFour Mall where the old Borders book store used to be.
