Bond reduced by half for mother of missing baby

(WMC-TV) - The mother of a missing 7-week-old baby will have a more affordable ticket out of jail.

Andrea Walker's bond has been reduced from $500,000 to $250,000. Defense Attorney Leslie Ballin and Prosecutor Jennifer Nichols reached the agreement. General Sessions Judge William Turner agreed to the deal.

In addition to the bond reduction, two charges related to Walker, 33, leaving her 3-year-old home alone were dropped.  But she is still charged with two counts of child abuse in connection with the disappearance of Aniston Walker.

Walker has been locked up in the Shelby County Jail since Friday, January 10 on aggravated child abuse and neglect charges.  She is accused of leaving her 7-week old baby home with her 3-year-old as she dropped her 5-year-old son off at school. She told police that when she returned, her 7-week-old baby, Aniston, was gone.

"There is a missing baby. Seven-week-old Aniston Walker is missing," said Prosecutor Jennifer Nichols, who got a March 2012 murder conviction against Shakara Dickens even though here missing baby, Lauryn, was never found.

"Anybody that followed that case saw the difficulties and challenges that are presented by those cases. But they can be prosecuted, they will be prosecuted," she added.

Nichols says there is always a possibility charges will be upgraded in this case.

Bet on it, says Walker's defense attorney Leslie Ballin.

"We are making progress in her defense," said Ballin, who doubts Walker will be able to make bond.

Ballin also said Tuesday that he knows more information about this case but is not comfortable sharing it yet.

Aniston's father was the person who ended up reporting her missing.
