MY TURN: Company will bring 1,000 jobs to Memphis

(WMC-TV) - The Memphis area scored a big jobs victory this week, and we did it because the company's leader remembers the people in our area as friendly, warm, and courteous.

You heard right.

Conduit Global announced plans to operate a new call center near the intersection of Interstate 40 and Whitten Road. Ultimately, the New York-based company says it will employ as many as 1,000 people in Memphis.

Since the Memphis unemployment rate is still greater than 9 percent, the new jobs will be welcomed.

The most interesting thing about this victory is the way we achieved it. Conduit Global's president, Bryce Hayes, spent time in our area many years ago as a Mormon missionary. He described the friendliness of our folks here as perfect for his call center business, and he mentioned that this quality is something that is hard to train.

So, let's give the people at Conduit Global a warm, friendly Mid-South welcome. It's fun to hear from someone outside the area who sees the best in us.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email or call 800-465-1210.
