Homeowner holds burglary suspect at gunpoint until police arrive

(WMC-TV) – A sign reading "Warning: Don't worry about the dog, beware of the owner" appears to have been missed by a man caught breaking into a house in Southaven.

On Wednesday, Kenneth Boone says when he caught the man breaking in, he held him at gunpoint until police arrived on the scene.

"I told him if he moved, I would shoot him," Boone recalled.

Boone was asleep in his bed when he woke to the sound of someone coming through his window. He wasted no time fetching his gun in the next room.

By the time he got the gun, Boone said the man was in his bedroom where he keeps several prescription narcotics to help him in his colon cancer recovery.

"I was right here with the gun, like this," Boone demonstrated. "Told him to get on the floor and lay down."

Southaven police arrived a few minutes later.

Jaylon Wallace is charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling.

Boone hopes the next person who thinks about breaking into his home will heed the warning posted outside.
