Shelby County Schools begin optional school application process - WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee

SCS optional school application process begins

(WMC-TV) – Dozens of Mid-South parents are waiting at Shelby County Schools headquarters to sign their children up for optional schools.

Monday morning, they will finally get their hands on the "bar-coded" applications after some parents camped out for them for hours last week in below-freezing temperatures.

Here is how the application process is going to work:

Starting at 6:30 a.m. Monday, parents who are interested in sending their children to schools outside of their attendance zone will get a bar-coded application.

Some parents actually began camping out last week, but Thursday the district shut the tent city down because of the cold. School leaders gave those parents "place-holder tickets."

If you already had an application, you can redeem it starting Monday morning.

If you can't make it out here until later, you can pick up a bar-coded application until 5 Monday evening in the Board Auditorium located at 160 South Hollywood.

Applications will also be available Tuesday, starting at 7 a.m. All applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday.

All applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The bar-coded applications will reserve the parents' places in line.
