Suspect arrested in weekend Selma rape

The Selma Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a weekend rape case.

Authorities say they took 20-year-old Jacody Mitchell into custody and charged with Rape 1st Degree after a woman says he sexually assaulted her after she came out of a convenience store on January 26.

The victim told police that she was walking home from a store when Mitchell approached her and made an explicit sexual advance toward her. The victim told police that after she refuse, the suspect grabbed her, took her behind a nearby house and sexually assaulted her.

Following the assault, the victim was able to flee to a nearby home where she called police. She told investigators that she knew the suspect as Cody from the neighborhood.

Mitchell was booked into the Dallas County Jail under a bond of $100,000.
