Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - An elementary school student brought box cutter blades into class Wednesday.

According to a letter sent home with Keystone Elementary School students, the teacher handled the situation with "appropriate care and attention and saw that the other students were able to quickly resume their learning for the day."

Also in the letter, Principal Dee Weedon wrote:

"I value your support of Keystone Elementary, and I understand that the continued safety and success of our school requires effective communication. Please continue to help us by emphasizing to students the importance of coming to school ready to learn every day and to always be mindful of school rules."

The blades were recovered, and the matter will be handled in accordance to board policy. No injuries were reported.

More than a dozen incidents reported on SCS campuses so far this 2013-2014 school year could have jeopardized students' safety. The incidents range from guns and knives found in backpacks to sexual assault reports. Use the map to locate and read more.
