DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

A man was arrested following a Decatur police investigation into the illegal sales of heroin.

Joshua Gregory Hawkins was charged with three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Police said their investigation into the illegal sales of heroin started earlier in the month. During the investigation, police said Hawkins sold quantities of heroin on three separate occasions within the city limits of Decatur.

On Jan. 30, Decatur police said Special Operations agents set out to place Hawkins under arrest on the three felony warrants for drug distribution. Investigators said they saw a dark-colored Ford F-150 traveling west on Highway 67 being driven by Hawkins.

Special Operations agents said they stopped Hawkins at the intersection of Country Club Road and Curtis Drive Southeast and took him into custody. Police said a search of the vehicle revealed that Hawkins was in possession of drug paraphernalia.

While Hawkins was being booked into Decatur City Jail, officers said they found a quantity of heroin on his person.

Hawkins was later transferred to Morgan County Jail on a $18,000 bond.
