Deputies man sobriety checkpoints on Super Bowl Sunday

(WMC-TV) - The rain and snow are not keeping people from celebrating Super Bowl XLVIII. But police want to make sure you do not celebrate a little "too much."

Raymond and Robbie Hobson has been throwing Super Bowl parties for the past 15 years. He says this year's party will be his biggest.

The Hobson's party is just one of many going on in homes, bars, and around the country.

Remember as you hit the road to head home, that you are not the only one on the streets. Other drivers and deputies will be sharing the road with you.

As part of a statewide program, you could see deputies manning sobriety checkpoints in certain parts of the Mid-South.

"It was designated for the sheriff's office on today to conduct a saturation, which will be from 6 p.m. until midnight, it will be over the south part of the county," said Chip Washington, Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

And like with every saturation, officers will be looking for everything.

"Well, obviously, first and foremost, we're looking for any infractions," said Washington. "Seat belt infractions, things like that."

Deputies say if you and your friends plan to drink Sunday night, you should designate a sober driver.

Hobson agrees, and he has already planned ahead. He has plenty of coffee and food to help party goers sober up, and the guests who have too much to drink can stay at his house until they are able to head home safely.
