MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Around 4,500 people are without power in Tipton County Wednesday after Tuesday's heavy ice, rain, and flooding.

Thousands of MLGW customers were also without power following weather that moved into the area Tuesday. Those customers' power in Shelby County has since been restored.

The power outages in Tipton County Wednesday forced emergency officials to open warming centers in Covington and also in Munford.

Allan Gross has to be very careful walking outside his house because limbs were falling all day.

"We got it worse on this end of the county. There's more ice here than anything," he said.

Officials say that ice is causing a mess everywhere. Iced trees and limbs are breaking and falling on power lines.

Crews have been out working endlessly trying to restore power.

Gross says his power went off early Tuesday and just came back on around lunchtime Wednesday.

"Limbs come down and pull the power right out of the house and when that happens, they ain't got no power at all," said Gross.

Tipton County's EMA Director says he fears the situation will get worse before it gets better.

"Our main concern is the cold front coming in bringing in winds and what's that's going to do to the trees and power lines," said director Tommy Dunavant.

Officials say wind is the main concern.

As it picks up, officials fear more trees and power lines will come tumbling down.

A warming center was open at the Covington Sportsplex. There was no activity, and it was since closed Wednesday. Covington's Fire Department Chief says people in northern Tipton County that need a place to go can go to Covington's north and south fire stations.

A separate center is still open at the Munford Parks and Recreation Center.
