Convicted cop killer charged with shooting a teen faces a judge

(WMC-TV) – The convicted cop killer charged in a convenience store shooting that hurt a Memphis teen will face a judge Thursday. Timothy McKinney is behind bars on $300,000 bond.

He's been locked up since last week when he was arrested for a long list of charges including attempted murder and reckless endangerment.

Thursday morning will be the first time he'll be in court on those charges.

It all stems from a shooting caught on camera at a North Memphis convenience store in January. Wanya

Phillips, 14, was waiting for change. That's when police say McKinney and another man started shooting, hitting the teen in the leg.

At last check, Phillips is recovering in a wheelchair.

In May 2013, McKinney was released from jail on time served in the 1997 murder of Memphis police officer Don Williams. McKinney pleaded guilty after three mistrials.

He's scheduled to face a judge Thursday and we'll let you know what happens tonight on Action News 5 at 5.
