Family of Super Bowl champion still beaming after win

(WMC-TV) - It has been almost a week since the Seattle Seahawks claimed the coveted Super Bowl Championship, but the family of Olive Branch's own KJ Wright is still beaming.

"Words cannot say how proud I am," said his mother, Jacqueline Wright.

KJ's parents knew he was destined for big things at a young age. He began playing football around the age of seven.

But before becoming a high school star for the Olive Branch Conquistadors, a leader at Mississippi State, or a key starter on the Seattle Seahawks, his father taught him something after losing a pee-wee league game that he'll never forget.

"I said if you want to be good, if you want to be a champion you have to work hard so one day you'll celebrate."

And with 17 of his family members in New York, the celebration lasted well into the Super Bowl night.

"His first words that came out of his mouth, he said, 'Dad I wouldn't have been here without you' and that kind of touched me. I got a little emotional," said Wright.

Olive Branch celebrated with him.

KJ's family says he will come home and host another football camp. His former coach called him a role model for younger players, who are trying to follow in his footsteps.

"KJ is the same person today that he was when he left Olive Branch. He's a solid person and I think that goes back to how he was raised," said former coach Olive Branch coach, Scott Samsel.

KJ's family couldn't be more proud of one of their own.

"The overall experience was a dream come true for us," said KJ's father.
