TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Pima Community College staff psychologist hired to work with troubled students after the Jan. 8 shootings, is resigning.

James Sanchez had five months left on his contract, but the college announced in a letter he is quitting after two years helping to lead PCC's threat assessment response, and will return to private practice.

The college tried to address unusual student behavior ever since it was discovered that Jan. 8 shooter Jared Loughner was a troubled PCC student.

PCC Vice Chancellor of Human Resources Mark Ziska sent the following letter:

Please join me in wishing Dr. Jim Sanchez our Pima Organizational Psychologist a bright future as he returns to private practice. Jim has been with the college for two years and has contributed to, led and participated in developing the threat assessment response and our college wide Behavioral Assessment Committee (BAC).

Jim is a nationally recognized presenter in his field and will be missed for his knowledge and insights. Just as Jim was able to leverage his practical skills and experience here at Pima, he will be able to take his experience and learning's from Pima and apply them uniquely in private practice.

The duties of the psychologist with the BAC will be provided through a contract with the Threat Assessment Group (TAG), one of the nation's leading workplace violence prevention organizations. TAG formerly provided services to Pima prior to Dr. Sanchez.

Jim's final day will be February 14th. Please join me in sending Jim your best and wishing all the success in his new endeavor.
