Vacation Express offers 2 international flights from Memphis - WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee

Company offers 2 non-stop int'l flights from MEM

(WMC-TV) – Two non-stop international flights are coming to Memphis International Airport this summer and fall. People in Memphis will be able to fly directly to Cancun and Grand Bahama Island, on a seasonal basis, through Vacation Express.

Scott Brockman, who is president of the Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority, shared some information about the flights.

"They are structured charters so it's not daily service, but it is very stable service over a seasonal time periods," he explained.

The two destinations will be Cancun, Mexico and Grand Bahama Island. People on the flights will be passengers who bought a package through Vacation Express.

"It is an all-inclusive air, hotel, and transportation package, so I think that people need to keep that in mind," Brockman said.

According to their website, the company is offering six night packages from Memphis nonstop to Cancun beginning May 19 through August 4. Vacations to Grand Bahama Island are four night packages starting August 11 and running through October 25.

Brockman said, "It will validate whether we have demand for international traffic to the Caribbean."

Airport leaders said Vacation Express offered a similar deal several years ago, but they had a hard time competing with Northwest and Delta Air Lines.

That competition is now gone, so the company is back to see if Memphis is the right opportunity for them and travelers.

Tickets for the vacation packages are on sale now. Click here to go to the Vacation Express website:
