Cavaliers swimming and diving fall in Region Championship


Darton fell to South Georgia State College in the Region 17 Swimming & Diving Championship Saturday in Albany.

The Cavaliers men fell 155-151. The Lady Tigers won 176-121.

Gabe Downey won the 100 and 200 backstroke. JD Rosseau continued to dominate the mile and 500-freestyle, and Stone Peterson won the 200 butterfly.

In women's action, Sandra Guerrero swept the mile, 100 and 200 butterfly while teammate Ashley Delgado was unstoppable in the 500, 200 and 100 free.

Kelsey Carniglia became the Region's No. 1 diver on the 1-meter board as she scored 217.40 to Sarah Hoop's 198.15. Hoop, who won a national title in 2013, later won the 3-meter event, scoring 218.15 to Carnigila's 212.35.

Crawford Berry, also a national champion in 2013, swept the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, scoring 312.85 and 328.75, respectively.
