School bus crash sends 18 people to hospital

(WMC-TV) – A Wednesday morning school bus accident sent 18 Sheffield High School students to Memphis hospitals.

Memphis Fire Department says at least five ambulances were called to the accident that happened at the intersection of Winchester Road and South Goodlett Street, near Lamar Avenue, just before 7 a.m.

Shelby County Schools officials say that 30 Sheffield High School students were on the bus at the time of the accident. The students that were not injured were loaded onto a second bus, which took them to school.

The bus driver was cited for the accident.

The scene had to be handled careful to make sure the victims, emergency responders, and bystanders who stopped to help were not injured while being pulled over on the side of the road.

It is not known if the driver of the car involved was injured.
