MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - One person is dead after two teenagers were ambushed by a gunman, according to police.

The second teen is hospitalized at LeBonheur.

Action News 5 was first news crew on the scene at the Lamar-Airways Shopping Center where police responded. As it turns out, the victims were shot several blocks away at Park Avenue and Marechalneil.

Police say the victims stopped at the shopping center while trying to get to the hospital.

Meanwhile, shoppers here on a busy Friday afternoon wondered if they were safe.

"They need to stop this violence - because it's the reason I keep my baby in the house on video games and doing his homework - and close to me," said Sabrina Woods.

There is no information on a possible motive for this shooting. Police say the victims were between 16 and 18 years of age and do not have detail on the suspect, who remains at large.

Action News 5 will continue to monitor the situation and bring you any updates.
