BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Police have arrested the man originally arrested on a charge of rioting in a deadly family brawl on New Year's Day.

James Dean, 23, was wanted for second-degree murder in the death of Michael Taylor, 53, but he is now in custody. Dean is accused of hitting Taylor in the head with a tire iron after a family fight started. Taylor was taken to the hospital, but died from his injuries on January 7.

Dean was arrested on the rioting charge on January 1, but apparently posted bail and was released. However, authorities issued another warrant for his arrest. This time, for Taylor's death.

Michael Taylor II, 30, turned himself in to authorities the day after his father died. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the following charges:

Attempted second-degree murder

Felon in possession of a firearm

Aggravated assault

Rioting

Illegal discharge of a firearm

According to Cpl. Ljean McKneely with BRPD, it was believed at the time that the younger Taylor had hit his father in the head with a blunt object during the incident on Convention Street. Investigators have not yet said whether they think both Taylor and Dean hit the victim or if Dean is the only one accused of murder.

Detectives added several shots were fired the night of the brawl and they think Michael Taylor II was the shooter. No one was hit by the gunfire.

Kimberly Dean, 40, is charged with rioting, inciting a riot and aggravated second-degree battery. Her daughter, Devin Dean, 21, is also charged with rioting.

James Dean's bond is set at $200,000.
