Complete with shooting toothpicks onto the ceiling, newest Huey's opens

GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC-TV) – Huey's Germantown has free Wi-Fi.

That's about the only thing that sets it apart from the Memphis burger icon's seven other locations.

We wouldn't have it any other way.

"Some friends and I were talking about it, say, three years ago – how nice it would be to have a Huey's in Germantown," said John Payne of Germantown. "It's great to finally have one here."

All things ‘Huey's' are here at Huey's Germantown, 7677 Farmington Blvd.: shooting toothpicks on the ceiling, writing on the walls, the "Prescriptions" stained-glass behind the bar. But you will discover sweet Germantown touches as you find your table – a ‘Germantownopoly" board, a GPAC sign, a portrait of the old Mable C. Williams High School.

Huey's diehards will appreciate the Germantown location's obedience to marketing 101: stick to the brand – and keep serving up those signature burgers, fries and onion rings, as well as soup specials, salads, sandwiches and appetizers.

A cold beer with that burger is the price of admission. Germantown's Huey's does not disappoint, including local brews Wiseacre, Ghost River and Nashville's Yazoo on tap.

There's an explanation for why a Germantown Huey's was nearly four decades in the making. "We've had so many other great locations we wanted to open first," said Shannon Little, Huey's marketing and events coordinator. "Our latest restaurant other than this one was (Huey's Poplar, 4872 Poplar Ave.), and it's our busiest location. And then when Southwind started booming, we felt like we had to add one there.

"Now we just feel like Germantown's the place to be!"

Little said construction hassles delayed the project longer than expected. "The construction phase took forever because we had to turn an old pharmacy into a restaurant. So we completely gutted the place, floor to ceiling, and put in vent-a-hoods, put in a kitchen, took down the drive-thru window, put up a patio … it just took forever."

It was worth the wait – for more of the same great Huey's.

Plus I can Tweet about it on that free Wi-Fi ...
