(WMC-TV) - The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) revealed findings of its preliminary investigation Thursday afternoon regarding the Saturday explosion at Kilgore Flares in Toone, Tenn.

The ATF National Response Team (NRT) deemed the explosion as non-criminal in nature. It was classified as an accident. According to the investigation, the explosion occurred in a mixing room and resulted in the death of one employee.

The explosion killed longtime employee Michael Chism. He suffered burns over 90 percent of his body and passed away Monday.

"He had three step kids, five children, lots of people loved him and we're gonna miss him a lot," said Chism's wife, Katherine, who said her husband was a mixer at the Kilgore plant.

"It's a dangerous place, but you have other jobs here just as dangerous," she said.

Katherine says her husband loved his job and did everything he could to stay safe. He loved his job there so much that he even volunteered to coach a Little League baseball team for the company.

Katherine says Michael's death should serve as a reminder to other employees who work at the plant.

"For everybody else who works there, be careful and do what you're supposed to do," she said.

Katherine is taking it one day at a time, just beginning the grieving process for her husband.

Kilgore employees will hold a vigil for Michael Chism at the Bolivar courthouse.

Chism's death brings the total number of employees killed on Kilgore's property to six since 1993.

The company released a statement regarding the accident at Kilgore. Read it in the following link: http://ftpcontent4.worldnow.com/wmctv/Kilgorerelease.pdf
