Student killed in crash identified, driver charged

Jashunda Reed, 18, was arrested and charged with failure to yield with serious injury/death, financial responsibility, and reckless driving. She was also cited for not having a driver's license. (WMC-TV) – The Mitchell High School student killed in a car accident Thursday has been identified by police. Meanwhile, the driver of the car was arrested and charged.

Laquisha Lipsey, 17, was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident. She was riding in the front seat of a 2000 Chevy Cavalier when it hit a power pole near the intersection of Weaver Road and Levi Road in South Memphis.

Jashunda Reed, 18, was arrested and charged with failure to yield with serious injury/death, financial responsibility, and reckless driving. She was also cited for not having a driver's license.

Reed was taken to The MED in non-critical condition. A passenger in the back seat was not injured.

All three teens involved went to Mitchell High School.
