Student suspended for bringing airsoft gun to school

(WMC-TV) - A student at Riverdale School in Germantown was suspended Thursday for bringing an airsoft gun to school, according to the principal.

In a note sent home to parents, Riverdale Principal Joseph Bond said "while there was no incident involving the airsoft gun and no evidence of intent to harm anyone, we want you to know this is a violation of Board policy. Weapons of any kind are prohibited on school campuses."

An airsoft gun is a replica firearm that fires plastic pellets using compressed gas or electric or spring-driven pistons.

In the letter, the principal said a small group of students saw the gun. He closed by asking that parents check their children's backpacks and belongings regularly.

The name and age of the student is unknown by Action News 5 at this time.

More than a dozen incidents reported on SCS campuses so far this 2013-2014 school year could have jeopardized students' safety. The incidents range from guns and knives found in backpacks to sexual assault reports. Use the map to locate and read more.
