FRAYSER, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The power is back on for the majority of MLGW customers, according to the utility company. As of 5 a.m. Friday, about 500 customers were still in the dark, the majority of those being the Frayser area.

Florestine Hall was thrilled to see MLGW crews repairing the power lines behind her house.

"This has been a terrible week for us," she said. "I seen them at 11 o'clock and they were working, I said, 'Well, thank you Lord they're going to get everything done.'"

Hall had been without power since Sunday. One day prior, she spent $200 on groceries that had to be thrown away.

"I'd rather throw the food away and be in good health than to eat it and make you sick," she said.

Hall stayed warm by using her gas oven and stove top. She burned candles and oil lamps for light. She was doing just about everything safety experts warn against.

"That's the only thing we had," she laughed.

She survived almost six full days in the dark; she even got out of jury duty due to the storm.

MLGW says most of the outages from Sunday's storm were the result of tree limbs that fell onto the power lines. Single service outages take longer to restore.

In Hall's case, the cause of the outage was a broken power pole.

"We just bundled up, so it was real cold," said Hall.

MLGW customers received a friendly reminder in the mail that January was the coldest Memphis has been in 20 years and the next utility bill could be up to 22 percent higher as a result.
