(WMC-TV) - First Book Mid-South has, again, put books in the hands of young readers; this time the delivery numbered in the thousands.

Title 1 Schools across Shelby County received a donation of 120,000 brand new books.

"Every single child gets a brand new book and as you can see they are just fantastic. They are not just paperbacks, they are read on DVD's, hardback books, story collections, and very nice books," said Wells Station Elementary Librarian Kathie Veglio.

The kids immediately started flipping through the pages, proudly holding a book that belongs to them.

"Unfortunately today our kids don't have access to those books that they need at home. It's very expensive to afford books at retail prices so this is a wonderful opportunity to afford them the books that they need to help them improve their reading skills," said Veglio.

The goal goes beyond developing a love for reading but to help their reading levels.
