A man was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting at a nightclub earlier this month.

Tirrell Boyd, 24, was arrested Friday after a brief pursuit, authorities said.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department Fugitive Task Force was looking for Boyd and spotted him sitting outside of an acquaintance's home near Ault Road in Hopkins in a silver GMC Tahoe.

As deputies approached, Boyd sped away in a high rate of speed to escape capture, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said.

After a short chase, Boyd wrecked the vehicle on Montgomery Road and fled into the woods where a K-9 tracked and located Boyd who surrendered without incident, Lott said.

Lott said Boyd was driving a vehicle that was reported stolen out of the City of Columbia, and had a stolen tag placed on it.

On March 1, Travis C. Singleton, 28, was shot and killed outside of Club Climax on McCords Ferry Road. Two others were also injured in the shooting.

Lott said the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation that began inside the club and continued once they got outside.

Boyd was been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and charged with murder, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and with possession of cocaine.
