(WMC-TV) - University of Memphis police blocked off an area after an alert was sent to students regarding a suspicious package.

A bomb squad arrived with a robot to check out the deserted suitcase in a parking lot at Southern Avenue and Houston Street.

After a robot blew open the suitcase, a few pieces of clothing were located inside it.

In a Tiger Text alert, the university sent:

"The police department is investigating a suspicious package near Southern and Houston. Please stay away from the area."

Crews cleared the area after nothing was found.
