MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - We celebrated a special day at WMC Action News 5, in honor of one of our favorite people alive. Forgive Joe Birch's inferior ability to make verses rhyme, but Friday was our sports poet Jack Eaton's 85th birthday time.
With song, cake and cards, and good cheers, Jack announced he would like to live another 85 years.
"I never dreamed I'd live to be 85. Now that I have, I feel good. I just can't walk. I feel good. I think I'll go for another 85," he said.
Jack keeps a close eye on U of M sports, and watches all of Jarvis Greer's Tiger reports.
U-Conn swept a Tiger hat-trick this basketball season, but Jack has a smile and for good reason:
"We did beat Louisville twice. That was a plus."
It was a day to make a birthday fuss, over a Tiger broadcaster who (win or lose) never did cuss.
Former Tiger football teammates Bob Jordan and Jarvis posed in a picture with the man, who celebrates number 85 today and has countless fans.
Jack used to make quite the rhymes on WMCTV year after year, thanks to YouTube you can watch one of his promos here.
