The Citadel football team, under first-year head coach Mike Houston, showcased its 2014 squad on Saturday at the annual Coke Zero Blue & White Game at Johnson Hagood Stadium.
The non-scored event, which pitted a head-to-head matchup against offense and defense, saw the new fast-paced offense run under the direction of senior quarterback Aaron Miller and freshman signal caller Cam Jackson.
Jackson, who redshirted the 2013 season, had a solid debut under center, completing 7-of-8 passes for 52 yards and adding another 36 on the ground in the first half. Jackson also had a 55-yard touchdown scamper called back due to an illegal crack block in the second quarter, but managed to get in in the end zone on a one-yard plunge in the third quarter.
Defensively, sophomore Mitchell Jeter busted through the line on several occasions, racking up a first quarter sack to go along with two tackles for loss in the second. Mark Thomas added another sack from the defensive end position in the first quarter.
Nick Jeffreys, who recently made the switch from tight end to defensive end, recorded two tackles for loss in the second half. Freshman DeVonta Delaney picked off a pass in the third and senior Cam Mobley added a second half sack.
Dane Anderson and Boeing Brown handled the quarterbacking duties for most of the second half. Anderson broke off a 19-yard run, while Brown completed an impressive 25-yard pass to Brandon Baugh-Cheatham in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs open their 2014 regular season on Aug. 30 against Coastal Carolina at Johnson Hagood Stadium for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
