Man convicted in iPhone robbery/murder case

(WMC-TV) - A South Memphis man has been convicted of first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery of a Whitehaven man.

According to a statement sent to Action News 5 by Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich, Jerome Sanders, 23, was convicted to life in prison with the possibility of parole for his role in the robbery and murder of Martin Webster, 19 on September 24, 2010.

Sanders was ordered to leave the courtroom after laughing while the judge read the jury's verdict. He was found in contempt after he scoffed and cursed at the court as he was escorted out of the courtroom. He was sentenced to 10 days for the outburst. 

Reginald Daughty and Adrian Hendree have also been charged with first degree murder in perpetration of especially aggravated robbery for their roles in the incident and will face separate trials.

Webster was shot in the chest and killed after he handed over his iPhone, but had nothing left to give.
