Tigers head to 'big dance' in Raleigh

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - The University of Memphis did not hold a watch party for the NCAA Selection show. Instead, it said they wanted to focus on this being a 'business trip.'

The Tigers waited until the final part of the bracket was announced before learning their fate.

Memphis earned an 8 seed for this year's tournament in the East Region, facing 9 seed George Washington out of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The Tigers set for a 5:55 CT game Friday in Raleigh, North Carolina at PNC Arena.

The winner of Friday's matchup likely to get number 1 seed Virginia in Sunday's third round.

This is the eighth time in the last nine seasons the Tigers earned a bid to the NCAA tournament, and fourth straight under coach Josh Pastner.

Coming off of a disappointing showing in their first American Athletic Conference, the Tigers know all eyes are on them as they enter the dance. The only way to silence those critics is to make some noise next week.
