SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Memphis police investigators are looking for those responsible for the shooting death of a man found in a Cordova field.

The man was discovered on the 9000 block of Fulton Avenue, west of Berryhill Road around 8 a.m. Monday. No information has been released about how long the man had been dead before being found.

Police have not identified the man, nor has an arrest been made in the case.

The area is a major power thoroughfare. The majority of the traffic on the road consists of ATVs, deer, and neighbors out getting exercise or walking their dogs.

Other than the wildlife, gang graffiti tags a fence just feet from where the man's body was discovered.

Neighbors report hearing gunshots around 11 p.m. Sunday, but investigators say it is too early to know if those are related to the case or if the body was dumped in the area.

"It's just very sad. It causes great concern when any life is taken and it's so close to home," said a neighbor who asked not to be identified. "It's heartbreaking."
