Students of closing university scramble to transfer schools

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - There are a lot of raw emotions among students and faculty at Victory University, where doors will close at this semester's end. Among many issues left to be sorted out: What is next?

About a dozen colleges and universities were trying to recruit on campus at Victory University Monday.

"I'm running around here trying to get my transcripts and everything so I can transfer over. It's just been a really hectic week," said Victory University student, Tavis Gibson.

A junior basketball player, Gibson says he plans to close out his career on the court at his next school, wherever that may be.

"A couple schools back in home in Chicago, one in Florida, one in Atlanta. I just got another call from a prospective school in North Carolina."

Nearly 1,500 underclassman have to figure out what's next on the path to reach their goals. On the first day back from spring break, Fatima Sermeno hit up the college and transfer fair in Victory's gym.

"I want to go to medical school and either be an orthodontist or a dentist," said Sermeno. "It's been pretty hard trying to decide which university I should go to. It's just like high school all over again from my senior year."

Back to the past, even if they had no desire to do it.

"I felt like I helped build this. It just feels like they just snatched something from me," added Gibson.

With only one graduating class left, commencement ceremonies are scheduled for May 2.

Though not here on campus Monday, the University of Memphis said last week that they will be involved in assisting students who want to transfer just a few blocks down Highland.
