Paul Runey, Earl Brown elected to SCBCA Hall Of Fame

The SC Basketball Coaches Association (SCBCA) has announced its Hall of Fame Class for 2014. Inductees include Bishop England girls coach Paul Runey, Timmonsville girls coach Perry Stokes, longtime Burke boys Coach Earl Brown, Gaffney Boys Coach Mark Huff, and former Saluda
Coach & long time Secretary Treasurer of the SC Basketball Coaches Association, Tommy Mitchell.

These five coaches will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the SCBCA Post Season Banquet on Friday, March 21 starting 8 pm at Seawell's Banquet Center in Columbia.

Paul Runey spent a 30 years at Bishop England High School where his girls' teams have won 590 games and played in 3 consecutive state title games capturing championships in 2012 & 2014. His teams have advanced to the Lower State Finals on 6 different occasions. Coach Runey has been named Region Coach of the Year 16 times. He has served as the North-­]South All Star game assistant coach in 1986 & then named Head coach for the North-­]South Game in 1988. In 1992, he was selected as Head Coach of the South Carolina All Star Team in the Carolinas Classic Game versus the North Carolina All Stars.

Coach Runey has also been an active member of the SCBCA serving as a Board member & President during his career. Paul is married to Patty Davis Runey and they have 2 children, Randall and Marie Louise (Weezy).  

Earl Brown coached at several schools during his 42 years (Alston, C.A. Brown, James Island, Baptist Hill), but is most known for his success at Burke High School. The legendary coach won over 730 games, led his teams to 5 Lower State Championships, and Eight Lower State (Final 4) appearances. Coach Brown has won 23 region titles & been named Region Coach of the Year 16 times. 

He was selected as an assistant coach for the North-­]South All Star game in 1982, and served as the Head Coach in 1987. He was chosen Head Coach for the South Carolina Team in Carolinas Classic All Star Game in 2010. Coach Brown's family consists of his wife Georgie, his 2 sons Earl Jr., Kevin, and his daughter Kimberly.
