SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV) – The Shelby County Sheriff's Office announced a new statewide program to help victims of violent crime. The program is called SAVIN, Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification.

It allows you to register anonymously to get updates about people charged with crimes.

You sign up and anytime the status of someone you want to keep tabs on changes, you get a notification.

"Education is the key. If folks know about the Tennessee SAVIN program they'll use it," said program coordinator Gary Cordell. "If they use it, their lives are going to be affected, if you're a victim of crime."

The service is free and available right now. To find more information about this program call (888)-TNVINE1 or you can register online here: https://www.vinelink.com/vinelink/siteInfoAction.do?siteId=43000
