MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A South Memphis woman fought off an attempted rapist in her own home.

Shaquille Powell, 19, tried to reportedly rape her Monday afternoon when she arrived home after work. The attack victim talked to WMC Action News 5, but she wished to keep her identity concealed.

"He could have killed me. He could have really hurt me in here. I was scared," she said.

She says she got out of her jeep and walked inside, eventually, to her kitchen.

"When I came out he was already standing in the kitchen," she said.

According to the woman, Powell started eyeing her kitchen knives and said, "I seen you looking at me. You want me."

She says when he started to unbuckle his belt she ran straight into him, slamming his head into the refrigerator. He fell out of the door, off the porch and then he ran.

At some point that day the suspect ended up a few houses down the street.

"He came up the steps, asked my aunt for some water," said a second woman.

The second woman also does not want to be identified. When the suspect arrived at her house her family was sitting on the porch. She says when she went to get the water he tried to follow her into the house.

Neighbors told police the whereabouts of the suspect and he was arrested.

Powell is charged with attempted rape and is out of jail on bond.
