(WMC-TV) - The Memphis Redbirds open their season Thursday April 4 in Iowa, and they mostly know how the lineup and pitching staff will look.
While manager Ron "Pop" Warner is still tinkering with his lineup and rotation, much of it is set.
The starting rotation:
LHP #22 Tyler Lyons
RHP #21 Angel Castro
RHP #13 Boone Whiting
LHP #37 Tim Cooney
RHP #48 Scott McGregor
The batting order isn't set, but the Redbirds look to have one of the most powerful outfields in AAA. Led by Left Fielder Oscar Taveras, Memphis has hitters at all three positions. Taveras is ranked the #2 prospect in all of baseball by MLB.com and #3 by Baseball America. In Center Field is Randal Grichuk, who came over in the David Freese trade from the Angels. Grichuk is known for his outfield range and power. He hit 22 home runs last season in AA. In Right Field is Stephen Piscotty, the 2011 Cape Cod League batting champion (.349) while at Stanford. Piscotty hit .342 in spring training with the Cardinals and .371 in the Arizona Fall League. He has started to break into Top 100 prospect lists as an advanced hitter. Tommy Pham and Joey Butler will backup the main three outfielders.
Catcher will be split between Audry Perez and Memphis native Ed Easley. The infield will consist of Xavier Scruggs at First Base, and Scott Moore at Third Base. Greg Garcia and Luis Mateo will both play the middle infield positions.
The bullpen includes former major league closer David Aardsma, who signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals. Warner says Aardsma will most likely have a late-inning setup role.
The Redbirds' home opener at AutoZone Park is Friday, April 11 against the Iowa Cubs.
