Neighborhood barber shot in North Memphis

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - After shooting a neighborhood barber in the 1500 block of Carpenter Street, a gunman is on the run as a Memphis man is left fighting for his life.

Right after shots rang out, cries went out in the Douglass community around 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

"They say they tried to rob him, he ran out the house, they shot him, he fell right there in the street, that's crazy," said Kovarick Walton.

Customers of a well known barber in the area were in disbelief as they described what happened.

"He used to work at a shop, he stopped working at the shop and brought his business back home," said Carlos Towns, a customer of the victim.

One mom who did not want to speak on camera told WMC Action News 5 that minutes before the shooting, her son was inside getting a haircut.

"Brad cut kids' hair for free, neighborhood guy, he do it all, good to everybody," added Towns.

Memphis police say the victim was transported to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

A respected member of this North Memphis neighborhood, friends are hoping that their beloved barber pulls through and recovers soon.
