MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - On Sunday afternoon, Beale Street Landing looks like a luggage marathon as passengers traveling on the American Queen cruise line tour the area and comment on what they like about this brand new riverfront location.

"Absolutely, because we read about Beale Street Landing and came down here specifically to see this," said Karen Ruple from Grand Rapids, Mich.

Whether tourists are traveling by water, air or train, many are hearing about the attraction and are arriving to visit the gift shop, playground and to take in the river view.

However, many visitors had one question about the landing: Why is there not a restaurant?

"I just walked down here to check on the area and get a look at the river and I think if you could pull more people down here then it would be better for this whole area," noted James Vrabel of Tampa, Fla.

The problem? Beale Street Landing managers have been trying to get a company to open a restaurant, but no companies have signed a contract.

Now officials with the Riverfront Development Corporation, which oversees Beale Street Landing, are thinking of opening up a restaurant on their own.

Tourist like Vrabel hope members vote yes.

"So yeah it would be great for Memphis it seems like so. It just has to be the right thing it has to be the right flavor and it has to reflect Memphis."

The Riverfront Development Corporation is expected to discuss possibility of opening a restaurant at Beale Street Landing at its planned board meeting Tuesday morning.
