Memphis teen killed in car crash

Posted: Updated:
(WMC-TV) - Last April, 20-year-old Jessie More was killed after police say two drag racers slammed into his car.

Friends are mourning the loss of 19-year-old Keleian Braden Sunday night, another possible victim of street racing gone terribly wrong.

It's happening in streets across the country, but far too often ends in tragedy. Brandon Roques says his 19-year-old brother Keleian Braden was a just spectator at a street race in Raleigh Saturday evening.

"He's down here almost every Saturday, just so happened this Saturday he just got killed," said Roques.

Police say the 20-year-old driver of a 2003 red Mustang was driving west on Pleasant View as Braden was turning left on Thomas Road when the two cars crashed.

Braden's girlfriend La'Shawnna Watson witnessed the collision.

"He just wanted a fast car, he loved Mustangs," said Watson, Braden's girlfriend. "His seatbelt was jammed and I didn't want him to blow up so I got him unjammed and a few people ran over and helped drag him out the car. He was on the ground and I touched him as rubbed him and said I love you baby."

Braden was taken to the hospital where he later died. The other driver sustained non-critical injuries.

Dozens of people took to Facebook to say goodbye, while family and friends returned to the scene Sunday to show their respect.

A cross now marks the spot where Braden was killed. Once a fan street of racing, Watson now has a warning for those dangerous drivers

"Anyone could have gotten killed, I could've gotten killed by an object that flew off another car, it's not worth it, nobody should do it."

No charges have been filed at this hour but police say the investigation is ongoing.

There are venues like the Memphis International Raceway that offer legal racing events. Click here to learn more about these events:
