MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – A Memphis church is dealing with damages after a car slammed into its welcome sign.

The accident happened at the New Life Holiness Church in the 5600 block of Winchester Road near Clarke Road in the Hickory Hill area around midnight on Friday.

The driver of the car said he was too shaken to talk to WMC Action News 5 on camera. He did say he was trying to avoid hitting another car when he ran off the road and careened into the church's sign.

It could've been much worse had he crashed into the church building. No one was hurt, but the car did have a lot of damage.

Police have not said if the driver will be cited with a ticket.

According to the church's website, the pastor is Elder Frederick Smith. There's no word yet from him or any other church members on how they'll get these damages fixed.
