MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A dangerous tree made for dangerous driving conditions in Memphis along Singleton Parkway.

A nearly dead tree was hanging over Singleton Parkway, just north of Egypt-Central Friday morning causing concern for southbound drivers and people who live nearby.

Delores Shannon says she drove past the tree without noticing it, but when she looked back, she quickly said it needed to be cut.

"That'd be a good thing especially if it's a danger for drivers," said Shannon.

The tree appears as though it had been struck by lightning. Bark has been ripped away and debris is covering shoulder of the road.

"I come through here a lot," said Butch Stockdale. "Yeah, it needs to be cut because somebody is probably gonna get hurt."

Bill Spade lives just up the road from the tree.

"I guess people have been calling it in. The question is, who's gonna take care of it?" he wondered. "I stay in the left lane, coming from the Navy base. I don't drive in the right lane. I'm in the left lane, because I don't want to get near it. I bet it's been there two weeks."

WMC Action News 5 made one call to TDOT and within hours, crews had shown up to cut the tree down and keep it from being a danger to other drivers.
